Care & lifespan
Wash in cool water with mild soap; air dry; keep away from heat

Beeswax wraps are pieces of cotton coated with beeswax, often with plant oil and tree resin. The warmth of your hands softens the wrap so it moulds around a bowl, half an avocado or a block of cheese.

They are washed in cool water with mild soap and air-dried. Makers generally advise against using them with raw meat or hot food, and they gradually lose their grip with use. Plant-wax versions are available if you avoid animal products.

Advantages

  • Reusable many times
  • Moulds to different shapes
  • Made from natural materials

Limitations

  • Not for raw meat or hot food
  • Loses grip over time
  • Not suitable for people avoiding animal products
